YardBatch helps you turn a garden project into quantities you can buy.

Use the calculators for mulch, gravel, and raised-bed soil. They combine volume estimates with whole-bag rounding, bulk order increments, and optional local prices. No account is needed to use them.

Our calculation method

1. Find area from a rectangle, circle, or the square footage you enter.
2. Multiply by the number of identical areas and the depth in inches, then divide by 12 to get cubic feet.
3. Multiply by 1 + the extra allowance divided by 100.
4. Divide cubic feet by 27 to get cubic yards.
5. Divide cubic feet by bag volume and round up to a whole bag.
6. Take the greater of the required cubic yards and bulk minimum, then round up to the selected order increment.
7. Multiply those purchase quantities by your prices. Add the delivery fee to the bulk total.

Displayed volumes are shortened for readability; purchase quantities use the unrounded calculation. Cost comparisons use amounts rounded to cents. Optional gravel weight uses the unrounded required volume and your supplied density in US short tons per cubic yard.

Assumptions you can change

Starting dimensions demonstrate the calculator. They are not a suggested project size. The default extra allowance is zero, the bulk minimum is zero, and the starting order increment is a quarter yard. Check those values against your project and supplier. Prices are left blank until you provide them.

What the estimate does not include

Calculations do not predict settling, compaction, material density, structural requirements, planting suitability, sales tax, labor, or bag pickup expenses. A user-selected extra allowance changes volume only; it is not an engineering recommendation.
